No, I didn’t change my name.
My legal name is not “Tanya T”.
“T” is not my middle initial.
And… it’s really not that confusing, I promise.
Allow me to explain:
Growing up, my name was hard for people to remember let alone spell.
For instance, it was spelled 6 different ways in one of my high school yearbooks- for ME. One of the versions (“Toneja”) was so absurd that people started calling me that- (TONE jah) in jest!
As a kid, I never could find a “nameplate” (i.e. one of those fake license plate things for your bike) or any item with my name on it like “Kristy” or “Lisa” or “Stephanie”.
I became “T” because it was easier.
And I went through a period of time when I didn’t like my name because… it was so different. And not memorable it seemed.
When I got older there were 3 different monikers I went by- Tanya, T and Dr. D. And pretty clear differences between the different types of people that used them.
I’ve been teaching fitness “on the side” since I was in school. There weren’t a lot of “Tanya’s” in ANY type alliteration back then. Now in one particular (small) area I’m at, there are about 6! And in 2 different companies, I teach at the SAME time as 2 different “Tanya’s”.
Talk about confusing.
So I’ve started to use my LONG-TIME nickname more.
It’s wonderful that a few of the fitness companies I work for recognize this and have incorporated “T” into the schedule listings.
It’s just easier and cuter! Lol.
I often say “T like the drink (tea)” <– Just don’t spell it that way
Love, T
