I had microneedling done for the first time the other month.
Surprising that it was my first time given that I like to try things (duh) and especially things that could potentially help with my skin issues.
There’s a lot of confusing information on what this type of procedure is/isn’t. I won’t get into everything but suffice to say, yes, this is like the “vampire facial” and “dermarolling”. It is not microdermabrasion.
After being comfortably numbed up with topical cream, a small wand delivers several tiny needles into the microlayers of my skin at a super fast rate of speed.
I didn’t feel a thing. (Not kidding)
But apparently many do, which I why I mention it here. My high pain threshold, though, allows them to be more “aggressive”. (Aggressive sometimes can mean better results! So by all means…fire away!)
Because this is making tiny puncture wounds into the skin, there is some blood or… maybe the oozing was the hylaruonic acid serum… or both.
It’s the needling action that stimulates the body’s repair process and is what you WANT to happen.
(Microneedling can also be done with PRP or “plasma rich proteins” made from your own blood)
Afterwards, a soothing mask is applied for about 10-15minutes.

Day 1 (1 hour post)

Day 2 – no make up, no filter
Down-time is minimal- approximately one to two days.
After any cosmetic procedure, it’s recommended you not do any heavy exercise, super hot showers, saunas etc for about 24-48 hours. (No problem- I schedule after work on a night I don’t teach. Plus I hold off on my beloved infrared treatments that I normally do 1-2x/week.)
WIth the microneedling, no make up for the next day or so and after that, only light cover up. (Again, no problem, I don’t wear it. NOT to say I didn’t need it but… my patients and my fitness members have seen me look a lot worse and I have “0” modesty when it comes to this stuff so…proceed!)
I’m not just a guinea pig, though; I am an educated guinea pig! One that is not only brave to try cutting edge treatments but reads all the research about it to make sure I’m getting the most “bang for my buck”.
The research on microneedling is positive!
And though this picture ^ might be hard to read, if you search on NIH’s PubMed you’ll find it and more.
I liked the effect of micro needling so much that I’m going to do these monthly.
Shortly after my treatment, I saw that Chrissy Teigen ALSO gets micro needling done and posted pictures on Instagram during the procedure. I’d say that’s a pretty good endorsement for microneedling, wouldn’t you?!

Would you try this? Or have you already?
